Trump Calls for Liz Cheney to be "Hung"
Former President Donald Trump doubled down on his attacks against Wyoming Congresswoman Liz Cheney on Saturday, calling for her to be "hung" at a rally in Texas. His remarks, made during a speech at a rally in Conroe, Texas, came just days after Cheney was censured by the Republican National Committee (RNC) for her role on the January 6th Select Committee investigating the Capitol riot.
"Liz Cheney is a warmonger, she's a horrible person, she's a bad representative, and she should be hung," Trump stated to cheers from the crowd.
Cheney, a vocal critic of Trump, has been a leading voice in the January 6th Committee, actively seeking to investigate Trump's role in the insurrection. Trump's call for Cheney to be "hung" has been widely condemned by political leaders and experts, who view it as a dangerous escalation of political rhetoric.
"It's a shameful statement from a former president," said Democratic Congressman Adam Schiff. "To call for violence against a political opponent is a dangerous and reckless thing to do. It sets a terrible example for our country."
The White House has also denounced Trump's statement, calling it "inappropriate and irresponsible."
Cheney has yet to directly respond to Trump's statement, but her office released a statement condemning the "ongoing attacks" against her and other members of the January 6th Committee.
This is not the first time Trump has used inflammatory language towards his political opponents. Throughout his presidency and since, he has frequently made comments that many have perceived as inciting violence or hatred.
This latest statement is likely to fuel the ongoing division within the Republican Party, particularly between Trump supporters and those who believe that he should be held accountable for his actions. The coming months will likely see continued tension and debate over the January 6th investigation and its impact on the political landscape.
While Trump's statement has been widely condemned, it remains to be seen what impact it will have on the political climate and the ongoing investigation into the January 6th Capitol riot.
