O'Ward: F1 Waits, Indy 500 is the Target
Pato O'Ward, the rising star of IndyCar, has his sights set on the Indianapolis 500, even as Formula 1 whispers beckon.
The Mexican driver, known for his aggressive driving style and consistent podium finishes, has been a constant subject of Formula 1 speculation. However, O'Ward has remained focused on his current endeavor, the IndyCar series, and his ultimate goal: winning the Indianapolis 500.
Indy 500: A Dream Within Reach
"The Indy 500 is the biggest race in the world," O'Ward stated during a recent interview. "It's the one I want to win more than anything." He added, "I'm not closing any doors, but right now, my focus is on IndyCar and winning the Indy 500."
O'Ward's determination is fueled by his remarkable performance in the 2021 Indy 500, where he finished in a heartbreaking second place after leading for much of the race. This near-miss has only intensified his hunger for victory.
A Future in F1?
While O'Ward acknowledges the appeal of Formula 1, he recognizes the challenges associated with transitioning to the pinnacle of motorsport. "F1 is a great series, but it's also very different from IndyCar," he explained. "The cars are different, the tracks are different, and the competition is incredibly intense."
He further added, "I'm not saying I won't race in Formula 1 someday, but I want to be ready for it when the time is right. Right now, I'm focused on IndyCar and winning the Indy 500."
A Legacy in the Making
O'Ward's commitment to the IndyCar series is a testament to his respect for the series' rich history and the legacy of legendary drivers like A.J. Foyt, Mario Andretti, and Al Unser. He understands the significance of the Indy 500 and the impact a victory would have on his career.
O'Ward's journey in IndyCar is far from over. While Formula 1 may hold a future promise, for now, his sights are firmly set on the iconic Brickyard and the ultimate prize: the Indy 500 trophy.
