Inter Milan Secure Victory Over Venezia, Jay Idzes Plays Full 90 Minutes
Inter Milan returned to winning ways in Serie A, comfortably defeating Venezia 2-0 at the Stadio Pierluigi Penzo on Saturday. The Nerazzurri bounced back from their midweek Coppa Italia defeat to Roma, with goals from Hakan Çalhanoğlu and Lautaro Martínez securing the three points.
Dutch midfielder Jay Idzes, making his first start for Venezia, played the full 90 minutes in the heart of the midfield. The 21-year-old, who arrived on loan from Go Ahead Eagles in the summer, showcased his impressive physicality and passing range. However, he was ultimately unable to prevent his new side from suffering their 10th league defeat of the season.
Inter Dominate From the Start
Inter Milan started the match brightly, dictating the tempo and creating numerous chances in the first half. Çalhanoğlu opened the scoring after just 12 minutes, converting a penalty after Mattia Caldara fouled Denzel Dumfries in the box.
The Nerazzurri continued to press, and Martínez doubled the lead in the 38th minute, slotting home a rebound after his initial shot was saved by Venezia goalkeeper Nervio Nikolau.
Venezia Struggle to Create Chances
Venezia, despite Idzes' efforts, struggled to create any clear-cut opportunities in the first half. Inter's defense, led by the experienced Milan Škriniar and Stefan de Vrij, was impenetrable.
The second half saw a similar pattern, with Inter comfortably maintaining their lead. Venezia showed some signs of improvement, but they lacked the cutting edge to truly test Inter's defense.
The win sees Inter move back into second place in the Serie A table, just one point behind leaders AC Milan. Venezia, meanwhile, remain in the relegation zone, with their task of avoiding the drop becoming increasingly challenging.
Idzes' Performance a Positive Sign
Despite the defeat, Idzes' performance was a positive sign for Venezia. The Dutch midfielder showed his composure and technical ability in the center of the park. While he was unable to influence the result, his display suggests he could be a valuable asset for the struggling Venetians in the coming months.
With the international break now upon us, both Inter and Venezia will have time to regroup before returning to Serie A action in late October. It will be interesting to see if Idzes can continue to impress and help Venezia climb out of the relegation zone.
